La Petite Cabale

Early Music Troupe

La Petite Cabale is an early music troupe founded in 2025 by performers Michal Bitan and João Paixão. Fruit of a long-lasting collaboration in the field of historically informed performance and research, La Petite Cabale sets out to innovate the way early musical theater is performed and presented to modern audiences. The three cornerstones of the troupe are relevance, participation, and passion. We build performances around important themes of our day. We involve the audience through carefully deployed historical techniques adjusted to our times. We present emotionally driven performances that move us and our public together. These goals are particularly dear to troupe founders and artistic directors Michal Bitan and João Paixão. During the past decade, their joint performances have combined singing, acting and pantomime to bring a variety of genres closer to the audience. Through opera, theater and melodrama, they have refined a unique style of delivery characterized by strong emotional expression and direct communication. Grounding this work is their ongoing research into 18th-century performance practice, which they both foster in collaboration with specialists in the field.
